Welcome to the Gulf of Mexico 2014 cruise blogs, bringing you nightly updates on research cruise AT26-13 with RV Atlantis and deep-sea submersible Alvin. The cruise will mobilize from Gulfport (MS) on March 30, 2014, complete an epic round trip along the northern continental shelf of the Gulf of Mexico with numerous dives to deep brine lakes, hydrocarbon seeps, mud volcanoes, and the oil-impacted seafloor near the Macondo wellhead, before returning to Gulfport on April 22, 2014. Right now, RV Atlantis awaits the arrival of the science crew from (mostly) Georgia, North Carolina and Florida in Gulfport on March 28 and 29, 2014.
