Dr. Fisher is an internationally recognized expert on the biology of cold seep and hydrothermal vent fauna with over 25 years experience working in the deep Gulf of Mexico. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed papers on the physiology and ecology of animals found in chemoautotrophic ecosystems. He has participated in 64 oceanographic expeditions, serving as chief scientist on 33 of them. Dr. Fisher has led five research cruises in the Gulf of Mexico since the Deepwater Horizon disaster, using 3 different ROVs, camera sleds, the HOV Alvin, and the AUV Sentry.
