Dr. Martens and colleagues have conducted biogeochemical process studies at active hydrothermal and cold seep sites since 1985. His team is part of a group (FSU and UMiss) that utilizes remote samplers and in situ sensor arrays on landers, ROVs and submersibles to determine temporal and spatial variations in light hydrocarbon and oxygen concentrations within the benthic boundary layer plus sediment-water fluxes.
